Cornerstone is a small, love-filled school serving children in Shauri Yako — one of Mombasa’s most vulnerable communities. We focus on strong foundations: early learning, daily nutrition, and care. Without sustained investment from sponsors and supporters, many children here miss school, miss meals, and miss their chance to thrive. Small Beginnings, Big Dreams
From a single room with 12 students in 2010, Cornerstone has become a launchpad for success. Our journey was built on key milestones: tackling student hunger with a daily meal program in 2017, and creating stability for the entire school through our sponsorship program in 2019. This growth, fueled by a global community of supporters, has been transformational: we've built new classrooms, recruited a team of passionate local teachers, and created a powerful support system. This foundation now serves our 140 students, empowers their families, and continues to champion our graduates as they build better futures.
Meet Grace & Dianne
friends at the heart of Cornerstone
At the heart of Cornerstone is the partnership between Grace Wambete, the school's Founder and Director, and Dianne Butler, its Co-leader and Sponsor Coordinator. Grace, a qualified educator and lifelong community leader, founded Cornerstone in 2010. She provides the essential on-the-ground leadership, managing the school's daily operations and fostering a safe, loving environment for every child. Dianne's journey began as a volunteer from Australia in 2011. She now spearheads fundraising and the vital sponsorship program, connecting the school to a global community of supporters. Together, their shared mission and complementary strengths provide a firm foundation for children who deserve a future beyond their circumstances.
