What support makes possible
Stories of change your investment makes possible
Michael – Changing Lives Through Sponsorship
Michael grew up in Shauri Yako, where fees often blocked schooling. In Grade 4 he joined Nyota and was matched with a sponsor who supported him through secondary school and university. He earned a degree in Accounting and Finance and now mentors younger students at Nyota.
“I am lucky to be one of those who has benefited from sponsorship. It is my wish for other children to also get such opportunities.” — Michael

A Safe Place to Grow – Elvis
Elvis arrived at Play Group anxious and attached to his bag and sweater. With daily meals, patient teachers, and supportive friends, he relaxed — first smile, then eagerness to learn and play. Today, he’s a confident, happy boy in and out of class.
“When I see the change in children like Elvis, I know we’re achieving our goal,” says Grace. “Every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment — and with patience and care, each one can find their place here.”

Confidence Beyond the Field – Merisha & Emmaculate
Merisha and Emmaculate’s football journey began on dusty local pitches — and led all the way to county and regional teams. Emmaculate even travelled to the national tournament in Kakamega, an unforgettable first trip beyond Mombasa. Both girls have long-time sponsors who’ve supported them from Cornerstone through Nyota and now Maweni Junior Secondary, opening doors to programs like Nyota’s soccer team.
“When children are given opportunities to shine, their futures become what they once could only imagine,” says Dianne Butler. “Opportunities like this are only possible with ongoing sponsorship.”
Excursions open the world beyond Shauri Yako, building confidence, curiosity, and joy. Many students had never ridden a bus, seen a film, or visited a nature reserve. Thanks to donors, they have now done all three — laughing through a rainy day at Mamba Village crocodile park, watching Mufasa: The Lion King at the cinema with popcorn in hand, and exploring wildlife at Haller Park.

“These experiences are just as important to our children’s well-being as time in the classroom," says Dianne Butler. "One-off donations can make this happen — and donors help decide how funds are used.”
